Goat Heads + Glass = Holy Bike Tires
So this week we had so many flat tires haha bike life.. but we are going strong and the hermanas should have their car back soon!
We went on exchanges this week and I went to the Black Canyon/Solano area! Mostly Spanish speakers, and I met so many cool people! Margaret is a native American woman we had a lesson with! She has recognized that the Book of Mormon is literally her family history and that she is a Lamanite! She doesn't know much about Jesus Christ so we talked about His life and His sacrifice and all the blessings we have because of Him. She told us that when she was growing up in her tribe, her mom would always tell about the man that came with holes in his hands. So powerful. It was incredible to hear that Lamanite ancestors have continued to pass down their experience of seeing Christ when He came and visited the people in the Americas after He was resurrected.
Another cool person is Ivan. His first language is Karen which is a Burmese language. He speaks English fairly well though! Anyway, the Book of Mormon is currently being translated into Burmese and so he is anxiously waiting for that, but reading it in English and has a pretty good grasp on it. He knows it is the word of God through His prophets! So cool. :)
Biking one day, we made it probably 10 miles and then I heard air coming out of my tires. Then I learned what goat horns are.. they're basically thorns that are super sharp and stick in your tires haha.. I had like 6 in one tire. We pulled over to see if we could fix it, then angels in spandex saved us! Haha a couple from our ward was biking past and had their truck parked on the side of the road right where we stopped. They took our bikes and gave us a ride to our dinner!
There were probably 3 more times this week that we had to call the Hermanas or elders to help us with the bike or the Hermanas called us for help haha.. its been kinda hectic but praying that they get their car back today or tomorrow!
Funny conversations with kids:
1. We were biking and some kids were biking past, so we stopped them and talked to them about the Mesa Easter pageant.. I asked them if their families are religious and one kid looked around at all of them and said, "we're basically Mexican. Soo.... we're catholic" haha
2. We were trying to find someone named Jose we found in our area book, and an older man opens the door. He didn't understand English so he brought his 10 year old grandson over to translate. We told him we were looking for Jose and he said "We are the Jose family" and so we asked "ohh is Jose your last name?".. and he said "no..I'm Jose, he's Jose, my dad's Jose" hahah too funny
Liz got baptized in Pima on Saturday and we got to skype into her baptism from a park haha.. and then Troybelle got baptized.. dunked 4 times..took a while.. but once she was fully immersed and baptized, everyone clapped an cheered haha.. it was like what I imagine the "rejoicing in heaven" to be like :)
Prayers for Troybelle, she wasn't able to come to church yesterday and be confirmed because she got pneumonia again and is in the hospital!! :(
Some things that stuck out to me at church and felt impressed to share with you all:
- Wherever you are in this life, the Lord has a work for you!
- We are the hardest on ourselves and the adversary likes to kick us when we're down, BUT, Heavenly Father knows you. He knows you're doing your best and accepts your efforts.
- The more you lose yourself in service, the more you grow and flourish
- Helaman 5:12 "And now, my sons, remember, remember that it is upon the rock of our Redeemer, who is Christ, the Son of God, that ye must build your foundation; that when the devil shall send forth his mighty winds, yea, his shafts in the whirlwind, yea, when all his hail and his mighty storm shall beat upon you, it shall have no power over you to drag you down to the gulf of misery and endless wo, because of the rock upon which ye are built, which is a sure foundation, a foundation whereon if men build they cannot fall."
Choose to have a good week! Don't let Satan win! Remember Who your foundation is and in whom you trust!
